New Slippers!

So a little over a month ago I decided that I wanted to learn how to crochet. I decided to take lessons from the 80+ yr old woman that I visit teach. I tried to work diligently on these slippers but they were taking forever. Of course I made them for Eric because he has very cold feet, especially when we get in bed. Well after a month or so I finished the basics of one slipper. For the other slipper I had become so skilled that I did it in just a week. I ran out of the yarn that I was using and luckily had just gotten more from a Relief Society Activity, so I was able to use that. I finished them up last night and ooala! They turned out perfect! Well for our purposes. I am very pleased that I now know how to crochet and am excited to try other things. I used a half double crochet stitch which is nice and thick and should be pretty warm for Eric's feet.

We also took pictures of the pretty flowers and the horses at the Rigby house, but I forgot to put those on the computer. Next time I guess!

Couch and Loveseat

For our 111th post, we wanted to do something a little special. We were couch-hunting on KSL for a few weeks, having grown weary of our loveseat, the first piece of furniture we bought as a couple. After several inquiries and heartaches over missed deals, we found a couch and a loveseat on KSL for only $30. They were so cheap because of the floral design that will be in style in our home when we are 96 years old. But, with the miracle of couch covers, they serve their purpose.

Our new favorite hobby is listening to The Hunger Games read on grooveshark.com at night, after school and work and church callings and such. Our new couch and loveseat are the perfect perches for tired bodies hungry for our favorite modern unethical literature.

The miniature sun that you see in the corner is actually our IKEA lamp.

Finally something to blog about!

Ok, so it has been a while since we have really blogged (except for that recent cake blog) but I finally have something to talk about! It all started with the apple. I got a bunch of apples on sale and each day Eric and I would each take a half. One day, something happened!
I was half way through the apple...


And my corer broke! It was from the dollar tree though. So now we do it the old fashioned way with a knife.

Next up, Eric signed up for summer school classes. He looks excited about it.


And third, I have been really bad about cooking dinner lately. So yesterday I decided it was time for me to shape up. Today's menu for dinner was a baked potato. And I must admit, I have never ever liked baked potatoes. But I decided to give them another try. I also decided I would try out a sweet potato (I always thought that yams were sweet potatoes, but they are actually yams. Sweet potatoes are a light yellow on the inside). So I got myself a sweet potato and regular potatoes. I followed some directions to make the outside skin crispy so that we could eat the whole thing

not the prettiest picture, but let me tell you, that sweet potato was one of the best things I have ever eaten! Soft and not starchy tasting at all! Sweet and juicy! I am definitely buying those again! I WANT MORE!!! We just topped them with a little butter, cheese, sour cream, green onions and tomatoes for me and bacon for Eric. Luckily Eric LOVES potatoes so he is very happy with my new discovery. Yay for baked potatoes and a meal that I leave wanting more!

So I have a menu all planned for the next two weeks and I think it is making Eric giddy that I am cooking meals again.

Cake

Hum, We haven't posted in a long time, but that's because there isn't really anything new to post about. Just school and work. But back when when it was Presidents Day, I made a cake and we did take pictures. So here are the pictures.



So there you have it. I can bake too.

Valentines Day

For Valentines day this year Eric got me some pretty carnations and I made him a cute little card. We went bowling on Monday night since Tuesday was a busy day with work and school. Eric won the first round, I won the second. It was a lot of fun.

Spokane

Hi,
So last week I was in Spokane WA presenting a poster at the SRM (Society of Range Management) meetings and I took a few pictures so I thought I'd put them up.




These first few are me and my poster. There were about 70 posters up and there was also apparently a competition with only a first and second place. I ended up getting second place and winning $100! The bummer was that I scored a 58/65 and first place was 58.7/65. I only got second place by .7! Oh well, I'm still very happy with second place and any extra money.


Some other fun things we did was walk around and run with the statues.





We also ate really great food including at this Ethiopian place that had the best flavors I have ever tasted, so here are some pictures of that great food.

Ever had your tonsils out?

So I do plan to put up a few gross pictures so beware if you can't stand gross things. But also know that these gross things were festering in my throat for 26 long years!

I was always very proud of my tonsils. They were the largest that I had ever seen or heard of on a person yet I was perfectly healthy. When I was 14 I started noticing that I had tonsil stones. They were gross and to me looked like little brains. Ew. Yet they are harmless. But on October 1, 2011 I started my long journey of sicknesses. Between that date and the end of December 2011 I had 6 sicknesses including strep and other problems with my throat. I took a few sleep apnea tests and it turned out that several times during the night I only got 70% of the oxygen I needed. I was right on the border of being normal when it comes to sleep apnea. Also during this sick period I would have to take out the tonsil stones every 2-3 days whereas before it was more like every 2-3 weeks. So I guess my tonsils sort of just stopped working all of the sudden.

Several doctors told me that there was no way the ENT Dr would take out my tonsils, but when I went to see him he said I was a prime candidate and lets do it!

So here are some before pictures.





Now don't tell me those don't look disgusting and didn't need to be taken out!


The surgery went great. They put me under and I came to a 1/2 hour later without tonsils and minimal pain. This is me coming out of it. I told Eric to bring the camera in case I said anything funny or weird, but I didn't. Eric said that the Dr. was very glad that we didn't wait even another day to take them out. That they were some of the worst he had seen and described them as cheesy. Those tonsil stones must have been taking over!


And the healing process went great. I ate a lot of soft foods but got back to solids real quick. The only rough days were days 6,7 and part of 8. I lost my voice entirely and I had to take my meds a little more often.

The raw skin that was forming from where they burned them out was white with just a little bleeding the first day.





And this is them right now. I healed really fast and I'm sure glad for that! I've heard lots of horror stories.


Other than that I feel really great and feel like there is a cavern in my mouth now. Sweet! It is hard to put my tongue down still though. Also the only strange side effect has been that chocolate tastes weird to me now. I hope that goes away! I love chocolate!

I went to Spokane this week but forgot to bring the camera wherever I went. So someone else took pictures for me and when I get those from her I'll put them up.

Also we got the new Pirates movie from the library and the back of the case really cracked us up. Read the last few lines and tell me what you think? Did anyone edit it at all?
